  • Organizing your Paperwork - For small business people, the self employed, and people who are a 'business of one'

    Issaquah Public Libary
    Tues, Jan 7th, 2020
    6:30 p.m. - 7:45 p.m.

If you are self employed, a small business person, or if your life is a "business of one", this presentation is for you.

Would you like to know the following?
How to setup a filing system from scratch
What the structure is for you to follow
How you accomplish this step by step so it doesn't have to be done all at once.
What to do with multiple years of paperwork

There is a science to setting up a proper filing system. Madeline turns it into art.

Workflow is the term for how paperwork flows from outside your organization to inside your file drawers. Would you like to know an efficient way to organize your work flow? One where you only touch the paper once and your desk stays clean? A filing system is only as good as your ability to retrieve a piece of paper when you need it. How would you like the confidence to know that you can do that for any piece of paper in a few minutes?

If your interest is in the paperless office, this presentation is NOT for you. Madeline is an expert in both and how one organizes files on the computer is different than how one organizes a physical filing system. Although she'll be happy to answer questions on what part of her system maps to electronic file organization if someone asks. But this presentation focuses on physical paperwork systems because the IRS and WA Department of Revenue still demand written proof. More importantly, managing physical paper is faster and cheaper still than the paperless office. The paperless office is a corporate goal.

Why is this presentation worth giving as a way of "giving back to the community"? All of the work of bookkeepers and accountants is based on numbers from pieces of paper, so a proper filing system is way more important than people give it credit for.

Madeline Bailey will teach you how to tame the paperwork tiger that's devouring your time and eating your lunch too.

"I am so excited about Madeline's book, Radical Accounting. I've read it cover to cover twice, marking it up with stickies and margin notes, and had it open on my lap when I sat down in front of a brand newQB account to create my Chart of Accounts from scratch. The day it all clicked - when I finally got it - when the P&L became clear and it all made sense - I was jumping up and down. I've been self employed for 8 years and until I read her book I thought my Chart of Accounts was just something I kept for my tax preparer so she'd know how much to deduct from my Schedule C. I wanted to understand more about how the finances affect my businesses, but I didn't know where to go to learn. Now I recommend it to everyone who runs his or her own business. It's concise, to the point, and puts all the pieces together. THANK YOU for such an awesome resource and for explaining it so clearly. .”
